![]() LeerA planet of retrograde spin, consisting of three continents. Merehr takes place on the vastly mountainous Len'ta continent. RieeveHome of Wing and Nien. A small, lush valley at the center of the Len'ta continent. Early in Rieeve's history it welcomed travelers from many valleys and even from other continents, but for more than 200 revolutions pre-Merehr, no one had traveled into or out of the exclusionist valley, save for the Rieevan-born Commander Lant who left at a young age but eventually returned. Rieeve is a gem agriculturally and geographically. It is also breathtakingly beautiful, set in the high mountains between the Ti and Uki alpine ranges. QuienessLargest valley on the Len'ta continent. Its biggest city, Cao, boasts the highest intermingling of races on the continent. Following the uprising of 705, a new family came to rule. Politically and religiously progressive, the new family welcomed and encouraged immigration, even sending envoys to other valleys to discuss free-trade and new business opportunities in Cao and other emerging municipalities. Mostly arid and bordered on the northing by rocky, cliff-strewn beaches, the warmer, fairer, and more easily accessible sunsetting beaches soon became a destination spot. The once inviolable Palace City was opened after the uprising, making the great Palace Domes not only a tourist attraction, but a place of respite and rejuvenation for Cao and surrounding city-dwellers. LegranA small, oddly shaped valley, Legran lies to the sunrising of Rieeve. Its earliest beginnings were rooted in nomadic dwellers. Though populated during the time of Merehr by those travelers and traders who chose to stay, Legran's economy still resides in trade. In revolutions past, fear over the success of Preak tradesmen led to the capture and eventual enslavement of Preaks in Legran, but during the time of Merehr, and due primarily to the efforts of Master Monteray, the vast majority of slaves taken in the original uprising had either been freed but remained in Legran for trade, or had already returned to Preak. JayakA peaceful, meditative race, Jayakans are nevertheless fearsome warriors when challenged. Their skills as warriors and strategists have often led them to be the focus of other valleys' efforts to secure them as allies. As a result, Jayakans are slow to enter any conflict that does not threaten them directly. Intelligent and strong, Jayakans admire these traits in other people and races. More of Jayakan culture will be explored in the pre-Merehr era. MajgA peaceful people, Majg is friendly though wary of outsiders since in pre-Merehr times roads into and out of this high mountain country were difficult and scarcely traveled. Of close racial kin to both Jayakans and Criyeans, the Majg are perhaps the more innocent and earthy of the three northingmost valley peoples. CriyeA mysterious valley at the top of Len'ta continent, more will be brought to light about Criye in the other two books of the Rieevan trilogy. PreakEntrepeneurial and hard-working, the Preak, like Quienans, thrive on trade and growth. Though this caused problems in Legran, the Preak nevertheless enjoy great and profitable relationships with Quieness, Grang, and Honj—the lower southing valleys.
